With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. - Minimum size = Viewing distance/3

| Similar Products Customer Reviews "This cannot be a sub $600 TV..." 2010-05-20By John P. Freeman (St. Louis, MO) Well, after suffering long enough with my fiance's 30" Philips tube set long enough, I took the plunge and purchased the 42pj350. Let me preface this entire review by giving a little background here. I have worked for both Ultimate Electronics and American TV for a total of 4 years in the past and spend literally hundreds of hours looking at pictures on TV screens, adjusting them, using AVIA discs, etc... so I have a relatively solid base for judging picture quality here. I've loved Pioneer Elite projection sets and plasmas and sold many projection Mitsubishi sets on the basis of quality of the picture. So...I set the set home and unbox it. Seven screws later, It's on the swiveling stand (yes, swivel stand on a $600 TV) and has taken the place of the bain of my television existence - the 30" tube. The only source I immediately have to try the set on is the composite Dish Network standard def feed, which really bummed me out. But, color me surprised when the channels, for the most part, look quite good from our 9' seating distance. Honestly, the little LG processes standard definition quite ok. After some quick picture adjustments (which I will talk about later), I start to surf around to find stuff to watch. NFL network has a game on - perfect for checking motion processing of a crappy 480i feed. Flawless. It looked damn good. I put the set in cinema zoom 1 (my fiance has had her old set in the same type of stretch/zoom ratio on her other set for years on standard def) and the picture quality is again more than passable for the signal. The deep blacks (compared to LCD sets I have owned) really allow the other colors on screen to pop nicely, even with contrast and color turned down. So far, standard def is a win. Next night, it's time for some blu-ray lovin'. I drag my HTPC out from the bedroom and plug the HDMI in...presto...we've got an actually very readable desktop in front of us. I didn't even set the resolution to the native of the panel, I left it at the native for my 32" LCD in the bedroom and it was amazingly clear. The blu ray du jour of the evening is the biggest movie ever - the recently released Avatar. I get a warning about needing to update my player, which sucks because I don't have a network drop in the living room, but I decide to press on and take a chance. Holy hell..the 3 minutes of the movie that played looked fantastic. Compared to the 32" Olevia we have been watching movies on in the bedroom, this is a different world. Rich colors, sharp detail, noise free playback (no crawling dots like I have experienced on fairly recent Panasonic and Samsung plasmas) that looked amazing at our seating distance. After she is in bed, I break out the Xbox 360. Forza 3, Grid, and Left 4 Dead all look better than they ever have in this house. The kids have a 32" Vizio 1080p set in their room that we normally play on, but again, the deep black of plasma technology just pops the other colors off the screen. I felt like I needed to wipe the red from one of the Ferraris off of the screen because it just looked that wet. So far, so good with hi-def signals. We spent much of Sunday (today) with cheezy sci-fi moves on SyFy network playing. My first foray into daytime viewing. I can't really complain. Yes, it is a giant piece of glass and does reflect things. News flash...tube tvs that we have been watching for 50 years are glass, too. We have a window to the left of the television and it wasn't a distraction at all. On a black screen, yes, you can see reflections. I can't see them as a distraction to most normal viewers. Our viewing is predominately night-time, but I will not limit daytime viewing because of a little reflection between commercials. It certainly is less distraction than the double reflections of my parents' 50" Panasonic with it's supposed AR coating. Reflections on that set turn into prismatic star shapes that apparently reflect off of 2 pieces of glass on the front of the set. After dinner, I drag the antenna out of the bedroom and rig it up for the misses to watch Desperate Housewives. Over the air HD looks stunning. It's truly amazing what 720p looks like on a 720p set. Yes, the native broadcast signal on ABC is 720p and it looks very, very good. I see no reason to spend twice the money at this screen size for 1080p and it's a damn shame that retailers are selling the 'you just HAVE to have 1080p' bill of goods to so many consumers when they would be blown away by the little LG that could. I'm a tough customer and have the box in the other room in case this set was going to perform like a $500 42" tv. It absolutely did not. As far as picture adjustments go, it didn't take long to see what looked good, but I will AVIA this thing this week. I used Cinema as the starting point for out-of-the-box adjustments. Contrast is around 75, Brightness 50, sharpness turned way down at 30. I also set the color temp slightly cool - it looks good there with the Color Gamut set to Wide. Speaking of color..if you set the gamut to wide - turn the color itself down to compensate. I've got the dynamic contrast on low right now and it seems to work well. Normally, I would shut every picture feature off and go from there, but with the black level setting at dark, the low setting is in no way heavy handed in crushing shadow detail from what I can see so far. I turned the edge enhancement off, the dynamic color off (stange enough, this feature actually reduced saturation when turned on???) and the gamma is set at medium right now. True, there are much more detailed settings in the ISF modes, but I've got nothing but time to mess with them and the picture so far is quite good. Colors come off as damn accurate and that plasma black sets them off. Inputs on the set are plentiful with no less than 5 HD inputs (3 HDMI, 2 component), an RGB 15 pin PC input, and composite for legacy devices. The set does lack S-video inputs or analog audio output - 2 things that can be forgiven for an entry level set like this one. Plasma buzz? Nope. Just a slight high-pitch noise that is less noticeable than what the CRT it replaced emitted. Image retention? Have not seen this happen yet. My parents also have a 50" Samsung (2008 model) and the IR is just unforgivable. 20 seconds in the DirecTV menu shouldn't leave an image up for 3 minutes after. I have been looking for it and didn't even see any after my unsuspecting fiance paused the DVR for something like 20 minutes before I woke up the other morning. The remote control and menus are both well laid out and intuitive. The remote is light years ahead of what Panasonic is sending out with their televisions. I swear they are off the same assembly line as their tube tv remotes from 10 years ago, which sucked big time, too. Honestly, I'm a critical guy with this kind of stuff and expected much less from this panel. I used to run movie theaters in my younger years and have the consumer electronics background to boot. That is a perfect storm of criticism for almost any television that I watch. For a $540 street product (hell, even Sears is pushing this thing for about that price at brick and mortar) I can wholeheartedly recommend it at this screen size. Black levels are quite good, colors bright and accurate, and no screen door effect to speak of outside of 3 feet. For those seeking a bargain in entry level plasma land - look no further. "Got a big new TV!" 2010-05-07By J. Duvoisin (Santa Fe, NM United States) Just got the LG 42PJ350 plasma, so I haven't had it very long--this won't be that kind of review. This is a great tv! It's our first flat screen hdtv. The difference between this and my old SONY Trinitron CRT is like night and day. The contrast is amazing, the colors are vibrant, off-angle viewing is flawless, and there are more than enough adjustments that you can make. The sound is good all by itself in a medium-sized room. And the screen is huge! I can't believe how wonderful it is to watch anything on this tv! Some technical junk: the digital tuner is excellent--it pulls in lots of channels, way more than the old converter box the gummint bought us. HD channels look fantastic. 720p is plenty good--I don't think you need 1080p, unless you have source material that can take advantage of it--and even then you probably won't be able to tell the difference. Most of what we watch is broadcast tv and old-fashioned dvd's, so we don't have much need of more pixels. If that sounds like you, then get a 720p plasma and save yourself $500+. Oh, yeah, and the remote control is very easy to use--big buttons where it matters and very intuitive. The setup is easy--it shouldn't take anyone more than 15 minutes. But we didn't even have to do that since Amazon's shipping partner took care of all that for us. Way to go, Amazon! and CEVA shipping too! "Excellent TV, Especially at This Price! See for Yourself!" 2010-04-28By Justo Nunez (Lake Mary, FL USA) This was my first flat panel and after doing my research, I fully expected to purchase a Samsung or Panasonic. But walk into a store that has several brands/models on display and try turning away from this picture. It blows the others away. When I saw the price I was sold, but only because the picture quality was so impressive; the salesman said it has been his biggest seller lately and he felt that LG "hit it out of the park" with this model. I am thrilled with the picture and the ease of use, and the cabinet is sharp and minimal. With World Cup Soccer coming up, you'll want the sharpness and color this TV will give you ... I don't think you can do better than this LG 42. "Awesome TV !! Similar Products Customer Reviews "Great TV for the price but it should not buzz" 2010-05-25By T. AmentI bought this TV and have had it for a month + now and it is a great TV for the money. The picture in HD looks great, but an in home comparison is tough to do; most TV'S will look great with an HD signal. I was going to purchase the Panasonic 58" plasma until The problems surfaced with some of their TV's suffering premature picture degradation, so I was reluctanat to spend that much money on a TV with possible problems. These problems also seemed to not be easily identified or verified and developed over time, see Cnet Reviews for details. I was also reluctant to buy a brand new model for fear of possible unknown issues that have not been worked out(buzzing sound) but We needed a TV, our previous 720p Panasonic was 13 years old. The hum or buzzing noise is not very noticable in the Samsung, but at lower volume levels or silent periods of a show is can be heard. I have not contacted the factory yet about this problem but it appears others have experienced this noise as well. Overall I am happy with the TV and would buy another Samsung product. Their TV's do look very good hanging on the wall. "Great TV So Far" 2010-05-23By Matthew Cummings (Sacramento, Ca United States) Set up my unit on 5/21 which I bought from a brick/mortar store (sorry Amazon!), after researching the hell out of it. My equipment includes a WDTV Media Player (HDMI w/optical out), Nintendo Wii (analog), Pioneer TiVo/DVD Burner (analog), and AIWA receiver (two optical audio inputs). PROS: - NO BUZZING! YEAH!! - Great picture out of the box - will be fine-tuning things later, but early indications are very positive. Several units had more features but PQ suffered. With so many blu-ray players and HTPCs that stream Netflix/Pandora, don't get lured in by feature-laden units that fail to deliver great PQ. - Media Play - plug in any USB or HD into the unit to watch video, listen to music, and view pictures. - Input panel is easy to access - swivel base is a real plus. - The manual states that it can connect to a home network and "can access the Internet through your LAN connection" - this one might be interesting! CONS - No memory card access - will attempt access with a card reader - Cannot tell unit to show subtitles only when muted - 7 different versions available, but none of them allow you to read subtitles when it's muted - Lack of widgets - Sound effects and music sound great through AIWA, yet dialogue is sometimes difficult to understand - I suspect that is due to my 10-year receiver than the TV. Audio is hooked up to the AIWA through the second opitcal cable. Manufacturers like Sony and Samsung make way too many units. Once you choose a manufacturer or a set of features you cannot live without, eliminate as many inferior units as possible. Then, find where your top 3 prospects are sold and get full demos on each including use of the remote. This was the only way I was able to determine that the 550 would work. "Very Nice..." 2010-05-21By Roger WadeThis is a replacement for my first order which arrived with a cracked screen. Seems like I'm not the only one to experience that. Thankfully, this one was undamaged. Amazon, gets top marks for customer service. They were very understanding and helpful in getting the replacement on the way. Why buy anywhere else? First off, this TV looks great and has a wonderful picture. It replaces a Sony, 50" 3LCD, which was only four and a half years old. It also had a top-notch picture, but we wanted to upgrade and our kids were happy to get the Sony. I was kinda worried that I might get one that buzzed, but this one is very quiet and so far (3 days) we are delighted we chose this TV. I did a lot of research before ordering. Trying to decide whether to go with Plasma, LCD or LED. After viewing this baby our decision to go with Plasma, was a good one. Looking forward to football season now. We have the signal coming through a Yamaha, receiver via HDMI. It's great to be able to get rid of all those other cables and it's as simple as the push of a button to switch to/from TV speakers to surround system or to Blu ray. I would have given this sweetheart five stars but nothings perfect. If you are looking for a really good plasma in this size I highly recommend you look closely at this one. "GREAT TV!!" 2010-05-05By Zime (Northern California) First off, I would like to say...NO BUZZ at all!!!! The picture on this TV is great!!! Add in the free two - day shipping and excellent delivery service and this was worth the research. Great entry level TV... "Great TV for the price and size" 2010-03-31By TacosBell (Raleigh NC) I purchased this TV brand new about three weeks ago. I found it to be an excellent plasma for the size and price. The color and contrast are great. I have to disagree with the other reviews saying this TV has a loud buzzing sound. Mine doesn't buzz at all. The TV looks great with HD cable, DVD's, XBox 360, etc. I would purchase this again and would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I would caution anyone about is the speakers. Mine do not buzz, but they aren't great. They seem too quite and there is hardly any bass (comparing them to my older 42" Panasonic Plasma). Even after changing the equalizer, the sound is still weak. If you do not have any sort of home theater system, you may want to consider one. All Reviews

WolffIm writing a very short review as of now and will update it as I use it more and more. To start, the TV appearance is stunning as one would expect with a Samsung TV. I am also becoming a fan of the new stands on the 2010 series TV's. The TV was much thinner than I anticipated as well. Obviously not as thin as an LED screen but its the thinnest LCD I've seen. The 2D picture is amazing for an LCD. If you have ever seen the Samsung LN46B750, it is very similar to that. DirectTV HD channels are amazing and my Sony PS3 Blu Ray player displays a very good picture. I calibrated the movie mode with the calibration settins on the LN46B750 settings on CNET and it looks pretty dang good. If you are a gamer, make sure you turn game mode on otherwise you will notice a lag. The built in media player is pretty cool as well. I plug my Ipod into it and play it off the TV. I am still waiting on my 3d blu ray player and glasses yet so I'm sorry I dont have any input on the 3d part of the TV yet. I am also going to buy a Samsung Linkstick to use the internet widgets so I will update on that as well. Overall, this set is a very good 3d TV at the price. Sadly the price has gone up on this set to $1529. I got mine for 1314.68 but it is still worth every penny. "First HDTV (Incomplete Review)" 2010-05-12By A. BrandtSHORT AND SWEET: If you aren't already sitting on a 1080p HDTV or are looking for the affordable angle into the upcoming 3D ready technology GO FOR IT! Into: I hadn't taken the plunge into HDTV's yet and was still watching on a 32" JVC tube television. I'll be a dork and admit that after seeing Avatar in 3D and with an upcoming birthday, I started researching the 3D ready televisions. Early reviews of the Samsung line were positive and only critical on the high end screens at an A/V level I won't be concerned with as an HDTV neophyte. Upon seeing Samsung's line up I had noticed the LN46C750 was the only non LED or Plasma offering, making it pretty much the most affordable 3D ready television out there. The info I found said the C750 should be like the B750 that CNET thought was quite good. Once the product showed up at Amazon, I went to big box store to check similar LCD's as well as try the 3D display they had setup. Being impressed by both I bought the LN46C750 the next day. I got the tv for less (killer deal) than it's going for now, but this price is still only about $3-400 more than a straight LCD of equivalent statistics. Delivery & Setup: The television came a few days earlier than expected! Box was undamaged and everything was in order when I pulled the set out. Having looked at LED LCD televisions in person that are sub 1" deep, I still find this television looks beautiful even with its portly (kidding) 3.2" depth. I have it set up on it's cool looking "X" stand on the old televisions garbage entertainment center (to be remedied in the future.) Directions are straight forward, I plugged in my cable, power source, and a ethernet cord--the WIS09ABGN wireless LAN adapter came later. Auto setup found all of my channels, set the time on the TV and updated the pre-installed apps. Picture (Incomplete): I mostly have left the picture settings alone, other than obviously picking home use over store display. Standard def. Cable doesn't look great, but I was expecting that as I've upped my PC monitor before and gone through the same issues. The free over air/cable HD channels are looking NICE! Unfortunately I do not have a Blu-ray player yet, and so I can't test really high end content. What I can say is I have one of the cheapest Target-special DVD players out there and STILL standard DVD's are looking great. SO good in fact that on some I have to turn down/off the Auto Motion Plus settings to avoid that re-shot-old-movie-with-high-end-home-video-camera look. The "mexican soap opera" look if you will. The exception is my animated selections. I tossed in Finding Nemo and it looks flat out amazing! Black levels (people seem to crow about this a lot on reviews) look good to me. With no signal in the lower 2 corners there is a bit of what I guess is "flashlighting" but nothing I find significant at all and when those parts of the screen are actually receiving signal I don't see it at all. WIS09ABGN Wireless LAN Adapter: Setup is no harder than getting a laptop to find your wireless router. Just plug it in after the television is on, and it will bring you through entering the password. Works excellent and given the shape of the back of this screen it fits in and won't be a problem even if you were to hang the set flush to a wall. Apps (Incomplete): I have only really used the Netflix app as of yet. I have found that the HD streaming content looks great, and the SD streaming content goes from very good down to "meh" or even a bit jerky on screen. Given the HD content looks so good, I feel I can eliminate wireless bandwith issues. I think it is just a varying quality in the SD content they offer. Sound: I didn't anticipate running that much sound from the set, but since I'm streaming Netflix I find myself using the TV speakers more often than expected. I could use an Audio Out to my receiver, but I've found the sound to be surprisingly good (maybe it's that chubby 3.2" dept giving more room for the speakers). 3D Effects (Incomplete): Sorry no review content here yet. I can't afford the 3D glasses right now--I didn't get the package deal as I'm getting a PS3 as my Blu-Ray player/game station. I will say I tried the rechargeable Samsung glasses at the big box store with Monsters V Aliens and while not a theater experience, the effect was still very cool even with all of the glare of the ceiling gym lights they had on. I will update my review as I try/figure out new things. Let me know if there's something specific you want to know from my not-expert-but-very-attentive viewpoint. EDIT: changed the final "term" of my viewpoint. "Beautiful Picture and a Great Value" 2010-05-07By Brian KThis is my first purchase of a flat panel television, I spent a long time deciding on what to spend my money on. I can say that I am very happy with my decision to buy this television. Although I have only seen the 3-d effect on the Monsters vs Aliens blu-ray, it is really incredible, very entertaining and mesmerizing. I am looking forward to additional availability of 3-d televised sporting events like World Cup soccer this summer. The one "negative" I would say is the auto-motion option, the "Spanish Soap Opera" effect is kind of off-putting when watching a movie. I have yet to watch a sporting event with auto-motion engaged so I am reserving judgment on that option until I do. Like the first reviewer, I turned auto-motion off, and think the picture quality of movies without that option is terrific. I am updating this review now that I have watched the NBA playoffs with auto-motion engaged, and I can say that it definitely makes a positive difference in the picture. Another nice thing about auto-motion, it has this great feature that allows the viewer to view half the screen in auto-motion and half without, thus making it much easier to compare which view is preferable. I see this as adding to the plus column when making a decision on whether to purchase. Additionally, the shipping and delivery were flawless, the items were delivered in the timeframes that they were promised, and the person who delivered the tv was polite and courteous. For the price, I think this television is definitely worth it, I am happy I waited to pull the trigger on a flat panel purchase until now. "Great TV for a great Value!" 2010-05-07By Diana Vasquez (Nashville, TN) I was a little skeptical on buying a TV online. I always want to test what I buy, but after a city search and stopping everywhere I couldn't find the LCD 3d tv. After checking the 700 series of LED Samsung, I thought it was amazing, but I didn't want to spent almost $3000, not really. After doing my research an understanding the technology of LED, LCD and Plasma. LCD was sufficient and on my price range. This is an amazing TV I received it yesterday from Amazon, and must say they were great delivering it and it has not a scratch! As soon as replaced my old 46in 1080p Toshiba for this new Samsung the difference was astounding!!! The image is amazing and the internet features are even better! I can stream my Netflix and Napster!! I must say this tv is worth it without the 3d feature, it's a winner with this feature. The 3d I didn't tested it on an actual 3d show but I did use the feature to change 2d to 3d. It works great for video games since it gives it depth but it makes it a little darker, I need to change a couple of my settings. ( I am still waiting for my 3d blueray so I can test the 3d properly - I live in Nashville half the city was under water last weekend) The only thing I would say it's a disappointment it's that Samsung does not connect with my MAC only connects with PC but it was advertised and I knew before I bought it, also it doesn't read my Iphone on Media Play but I also knew this beforehand. If they could allow me to synch with my mac computer this would be the best TV I've ever bought for this amazing price "Defective Product Repaired" 2010-05-06By Robert BrooksI received this TV in good physical condition. The sound was good but the LCD picture did not work. It's a defective product and I am very sad to have spent $1,450.00 on it. I have never had problems with any Amazon product before. I will never buy any type of TV again from Amazon. I really got stuck with a Lemon. I took the TV to a Samsung repair shop and had the TV repaired. It does work great and I do enjoy the 3d video system. I think it is much better to purchase this item from a nearby physical store where such items can be returned without additional cost. The repair cost was only $35.00 which was much cheaper than sending it back to Amazon. It is a really neat product dispite the initial problem. I'll change my one star rating to a four star rating due to the fact that it is now working beyond my expectations. All Reviews

Rosenberg (sc) Best Netbook ever! Bought it for my 70 year old Mom. Easy to set up to use for e-mail, skype and the internet. "amazing" 2010-05-07By S. Winters (Columbus, OH USA) I bought this as a christmas present for my boyfriend, and HE LOVES IT. It has been almost half a year and he says it still runs perfectly. This is a fast, stylish (very shiny and sleek), and light netbook. I would definitely recommend this to everyone! "Great netbook!" 2010-04-21By Pacman (CA, USA) I purchased this netbook for my wife for her birthday. She is big user of Facebook and email and would have to fire up our large HP desktop computer and stay there to keep updated before she got this netbook. Now she can surf all day long with this netbook anywhere in the house! She absolutely loves it (I was worried at first since she doesn't normally like tech gifts). The only problem we had was that the battery would never charge above about 90%, so the battery charge indicator would never go green. Even with that, it still would run 8+ hours!! After about a month of use, the battery did start charging to 100% (and the indicator turns green now). I looked at several other models and almost bought the Best Buy version of this Eee PC - DON'T! The Best Buy model seems to use a smaller battery and still costs the same or more than Amazon. If you need a netbook, this is one of the best. "Avoid this -- as long as it ships with Windows 7" 2010-04-18By Mark Fury (USA! USA! USA!) Fair warning -- the computer ran pretty well for the few weeks we had it after Christmas. And then . . . the problems started. Just Google "Windows 7" and "Public Network." Our "Netbook" cannot get online. We've tried solution after solution with no luck. Do NOT buy this "Netbook" if you want to actually get on the internet! Very dissatisfied. No support/help from Asus, and of course none from Microsoft. Everyone blames someone else. "Great little machine!" 2010-04-11By G. Stiller (Harrisburg, PA United States) I've had this netbook for a little over two months, and am thoroughly pleased with this machine. It does exactly what I need it to do (internet and light Office work) with ease. I swapped out the ram for a 2 GB stick, so I can't say if I would get the same results "out of the box" (that is, with only 1 GB ram). Battery life is excellent (if not what it's listed by the manufacturer), 8 hours or so on a single charge. Windows 7 loads extremely fast (compared to my Win XP machine). Asus website has a utility program to allow you to change your wallpaper (stupid limitation of Win 7 starter), no need for any of the other "bells and whistles" of full blown Win 7 OS (this IS a netbook, not a more powerful laptop). If you are looking for an inexpensive machine to do light computing work, you can't go wrong with this one! All Reviews

Listed below are the issues that I have with unit. 1) The rubber pads at the bottom of the unit that is supposed to keep it from slipping, fell off within two months. (cheap glue, I guess) 2) Screen too glary 3) Power adapter died and had to be replaced ( luckily Asus honored the warranty and sent a replacement) I however had to bear the cost of shipping. 4) The design of the screen/lid is such that if you push it too far back,(sometimes you need to do this to get rid of glare on the screen) it kicks up the front and in order to type on the keyboard you need to hold down the unit,,,tough to hold down the unit and type at the same time. 5) And the big one,,,, I had to send the unit back to be repaired because the ethernet port quit working, (wireless worked OK but ethernet port just would not work),,,,, this one cost me two days of my life working with tech support, and of course shipping. The repair that they did was to replace the motherboard. ,,,, OH and yeah,, I had to back up my data on an external drive. When I received the virgin PC back I had to reload all my programs. Remember the rubber pads I mentioned in item (1)? they sent me the PC back minus those, they chose not to fix it. In contrast, I have been using Dell PCs fo years now and I have never had to send one back. I have had this one for less than seven months and it is already falling apart..... NEVER AGAIN "Love the netbook but have battery and customer service issues" 2010-04-24By S. ShahI got this netbook in January (2010) and just over 30 days later, my adapter stopped working while I was traveling. I called Asus a few hours later and the light turned on when they asked me to plug it in again. I figured I was just using an outlet that was faulty. However, yesterday (2 months after initial problem), the same thing happened. It stopped working and then started again and then stopped again. I decided it was too unreliable and called Asus for a replacement. They said that I would have to pay to have it shipped to them (even though this is a known issue with their adapters) and then once they received it, it would normally take 2-3 days processing time before they would ship one out to me. However, they were currently out of stock and didn't know when the next shipment would be arriving from overseas. All they could do was put me on 'high priority' for a replacement. I did not find this acceptable customer service - I'm not risking sending them my adapter (even though it's faulty) when I don't know when I will be getting a replacement. For the principle of it, even if they had adapters in stock, I would not be willing to pay to have it shipped to them when it's under warranty and clearly a bad product. I would expect for a product like a computer, the company would overnight a replacement adapter and then have you send back the faulty one. This is what other companies typically do. I would not purchase another product from a company with such ridiculous customer service policies (the customer service techs were very nice). I will be buying a universal adapter instead of dealing with Asus. All that said, Amazon provided great customer service and was willing to accept the unit for a full refund (shipping on them) or give me a discount for the product. "Great Netbook with Bad Battery Charger/Adapter" 2010-04-23By Rad DocFirst of all, this is an absolutely awesome netbook. It delivers whatever it promised ! The only three things about the netbook itself that I would want to change 1.Would like a backlit keyboard. 2.Improve the trackpad sensitivity, it takes getting used to and often zooms without the pinch. 3.Make it less of a fingerprint magnet. Here's the bad experience I had. Within less than 2 weeks of purchase the battery power adapter/charger stopped working. The blue light on the power adapter would not come on. I called ASUS and after 20 minutes on the phone they issued me an RMA number to ship the adapter to them (I paid shipping). They said they would ship me a new adapter after verifying that this one did not work. It's been more than 10 days since they received my adapter and yesterday told me that they were waiting on some parts and it would be another 3 days till they could send me a new one. All this when I am about to hit the road, the reason I bought the netbook. I bought a ASUS compatible adapter online for $30 which has allowed me to use the netbook, which I would not have been able to otherwise. So much for ASUS service ! Make sure you order an extra power adapter/charger from somewhere else if you buy this product. "Replacement part issues with asus" 2010-04-16By ron rourke (new york) Had this computer for about a week, the computer itself is a sweet little machine, but the charger does get smoking hot when charging the battery and all the talk about the chargers burning up after a few months made me a little wary about keeping it; and it is to much of a hassle to get genuine replacement parts directly from asus. So brought it back and ordered a toshiba, any problems with a toshiba part (battery, charger) just go to toshiba direct and there it is. Asus really needs to step it up in this department. "You get what you pay for" 2010-04-15By LEX (USA) It's cheap, both monetarily speaking as well as quality wise. My earlier 901 series seemed to be better built. The first one I bought had issues with the power button as well as the loud fan sounding like a jet engine. The second replacement one seemed like it wasn't fully snapped together at the top where the lid meets the screen. Both units had wavy distorted cheap plastic framing the screen. It's not a bad unit if you want to just surf the web with minimal weight. Oh, the power adapter died on me after a couple of months into it. It gets really hot. I think the heat killed it. I'd look to HP or other "name" brands for better overall quality. All Reviews

With some Tinkering" 2010-04-14 By Kelly Attree (New Orleans, LA, US) I was initially a bit weary about purchasing a tablet this size and at this price with XP but I decided to take a chance. The 1st time I used the T91 I was very pleased with the responsiveness and accuracy of the touch screen. The unit is quite light and very useful in portrait mode. Before I list the pro's and cons I will say that the only way you will get any enjoyment out of this machine is by loading windows 7 or xp tablet edition. The touchgate software provided is pretty useless, no support for inking in MS office, no journalling software, difficult device drivers and alot of lag in XP. I was pretty disappointed at this point with xp but after I booted windows 7 professional it all changed for me. Inking support and no lag at all. The unit actually runs a whole lot quicker with windows 7 loaded. The ink input and on screen keyboard (even at logon) is priceless. In the preloaded xp its very difficult to navigate using the stylus alone. Battery life is at least 4 hours which is really useful, sometimes even 5. I cant think of any cons, my only recommendation is maybe if you need a little extra speed go for the 2gb dimm, but even without it its quite snappy with win 7. The T91MT is a better choice with win 7 already preloaded. The size and weight are also fantastic, perfect size for your palm and very readable especially in portrait mode. You might have some software niggles but the asus forums are quite useful as no doubt someone has had the same issue before you. Two thumbs up!
"OK for the price. Needs minor but important improvements" 2010-03-30 By CMK (USA)
Looks pretty.Works as it should. Priced well. Touch function works well. Somewhat slow(I guess OK for the price). Touchgate with the three floating desktop screens is a dumb distraction and does not add any functionality. WORST OF ALL,the pen writing in the tablet mode (which was the main reason I bought this tablet)DOES NOT WORK, as the palm touch input is not blocked. This NEEDS to be fixed, including updated software for those of us who bought it without knowing this serious deficiency. And the User Manual (paper as well as oline) is virtually useless. Does not give any info or suggestions on using the various functions unique to this tablet.

"fantastic utility, for a nice price" 2010-02-17 By Christian Jacks (Chico, CA) I've always wanted a tablet PC, and much to my surprise Asus debuted this wonderful netbook just in time for my first semester of college. The T91 is great for online course content, as you can push buttons and click through equations and slides with just a tap on the screen. I've quickly become so used to this awesomeness that I keep mistakenly touching the screen of my older, bigger laptop, expecting a mouse click.
For fun and utility the T91 really can't be beat. I have all my textbooks on board, so it's the only resident of my bookbag save for my note paper. The screen-swiveled tablet mode is great for reading and reviewing slide shows and notes. And walking around campus it doubles as an mp3 player and a (web) radio!
The only minor annoyances are a less-than-perfectly-responsive keyboard (please, Asus, tune this up in the next version) and the 1GB of RAM - I highly suggest upgrading to 2GB, unless you're a more patient soul than I.
This is fantastic product for the price, and it allows for some seriously new and exciting uses. If you enjoy innovation and want a super-lightweight way to read ebooks and stay connected, I'd look no further.
"The best tablet / net book for the money" 2010-02-15 By T. Murray (Bridgetown, Barbados) Ok I've read the reviews here and I am not amused... As a computer technician I know and trust Asus products without question, and with my recent purchase of the T91 my trust has only grown. First off for the yokels that bought this for heavy work loads... you're a moron case in point; with a 16 Gb SSD (solid state drive) and 1 Gb memory topped off 1.6 Ghz processor and a 8.9" screen did you really think that this could handle that kind of work load? And for the idiots that scratched the surface of your touchscreen with the stylus do you poke your wife or girlfreinds like that? If you do bet you spend alot of time "Alone". As a tech and a Sales executive for my own firm I needed a laptop that 1. I could travel with that wasn't to cumbersome (specially when I'm flying) and 2. when I was up in someones roof or in their wall fixing their network I could still have information and a great test tool at my finger tips. The T91 did that and never broke a sweat...if you haven't figered it out then let me spell it out for you..."I LOVE THIS MACHINE!!!" My T91 has taken over as mission critical equipment in my work as a tech, I use her to trace network cables, shorts and hub problems. she connects to my test equipment and gives more information on the problems I face. Wireless interfarence and blind spots are no longer problems that bother me.
So you want a good system to do a few things when you're on the road? want something not to bulky, enough speed to get info on the road, or you're a tech looking for a cheap alternative to buying high grade test equipment on a buget then look no further... The T91 in my opinion is a great buy and a great netbook / tablet.
"Awesome little tablet!" 2010-02-12 By Danny H. Sloop I was looking for a tablet computer that I could use to display my instrument approach plate (IAPs) when flying IFR. This device fit the bill! It is easy to use and does almost all the things I wanted it too with only a few exceptions. I can download my IAPs from the internet site I use ([...] - Thanks DOUG RANZ - If you use him, donate to him, Great Service). I can use FOXIT Reader to view these, finding the plate I need and then going Full Screen in tablet mode and BAM! I have it. Battery life is good and the 12 volt adapter is compatible with aircraft using a 12 volt system. I will use a 24V to 12V adapter for mine.

Product Description Asus Eee PC 1001P-MU17-PI 10.1 inch Intel Atom N450/1 GB/160 GB/W7S Netbook Computer (Rose Pink) Similar Products Customer Reviews "I Would Definitely Recommend This Netbook ...." 2010-04-26By Joey (United States) It seemed like I had been reading reviews on this netbook for weeks. Here on Amazon and elsewhere. I more than did my homework on this one. I even went to Best Buy a few weeks ago and did some typing on the Asus netbook they had for sale there. I wanted to get a sense for how an Asus netbook would work for me in the real world. 2 Fridays nights ago I decided to go with it and I placed my order with Amazon. Following is my thorough review on this product. First Impressions: - This is a theme you'll see played out over and over in various reviews on this netbook. Amazon ships fast. I ordered on a Friday night after hours (picked free shipping because I wasn't in a hurry to get it) and by Monday it shipped. I had it in my hands by Wednesday morning before 10 AM. That is what I call exceptional service and it far exceeded my expectations. - Upon receiving the netbook and opening up everything I was really pleased with the fit and finish of the netbook. I have to say that the checkered pattern is great. Definitely it will mask fingerprints and scratches a whole lot better than its glossy counterpart. It looks classy and works well in the real world. - There was one fly in the ointment. When I turned on the netbook for the first time Windows would not boot up. I wasn't extremely happy about that. But that all got worked out over the phone with Asus technical support in about 15 minutes. It would appear that the person who did the Windows installation didn't complete it. Anyway, using the Restore function things were able to be reset and it was a minor problem soon forgotten. For lack of a better illustration, I feel that it was like buying a pair of brand new shoes and noticing they had a scuff on them. However, the shoes came with a scuff remover tool and so the scuff was easily removed. The point is, although it was nice to see the tool worked you'd just hope you wouldn't have to use it on the first day! Anyway, anybody who considers this a deal-breaker as far as buying an Asus netbook is crazy. This was the only minor irritant for me personally and I will go on to elaborate now on the many things I love about this netbook! Battery Life: - This is an issue that there seems to be a great debate on around here in various reviews. There are people saying that they're getting 11 hours right on Asus specifications but on the other hand there are people really upset with the battery life because they're only getting 5 hours on a charge. This is my opinion after getting my own netbook. You MUST deep charge the battery for the first time for at least 11-12 hours. If you're using the netbook during that time than charge it even longer. Remember, while you're using the netbook the battery won't charge as fast. This concept isn't something I made up. Look it up for yourself. The Asus manual says charge it at least 8 hours for the first time - I decided to charge longer than that. Not only that, you MUST do a full charge and discharge a few times before the battery reaches its maximum potential. Again, it's in the manual. After the first charge I used the netbook over 3 days for several hours of usage. It definitely seemed capable of getting 11 hours out of it if the Super Hybrid Engine setting was permanently set to Power Saver and the screen brightness was toned down (the screen is capable of being way too bright anyway!) and one wasn't watching YouTube videos continuously for the whole time. I just got done charging it for the second time today (again charged it for 9+ hours) and it says it has 13 hours left. - I want to talk about the Super Hybrid Engine function in a second. First, to recap, if you're only getting 5 hours out of a charge than it would be my suggestion you consider these 3 things: a) Did you deep charge it 8-12 hours the first time (without using it for that time) and a few times for the following charges? b) Do you have 4-5 programs open and are you trying to watch YouTube videos for hours on end? c) BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, is your Super Hybrid Engine set to Power Saver? You can toggle through several power efficiency settings and Power Saver is one of them. If not, there is no way you will get 11 hours out of the battery. Now, for just surfing the Internet I didn't notice any difference in speed using Power Saver. Even playing a YouTube video it was okay. In fact, I think I'll keep it on Power Saver permanently. But, the battery definitely notices a difference when the Super Hybrid Engine is in this mode. It can extend the battery's life between 35-50% on a charge. That's HUGE. You won't get that in Super Performance mode! Operating System: - People on here are in some cases ragging on the operating system (Windows 7) that comes with this netbook. Folks, as I have already commented on some of your reviews before making this purchase, Windows 7 is coming out on most netbooks these days. It's reality. XP is old and dated and quickly coming to the end of its life. If you only want your netbook for a year and you're set on XP than save a few bucks and go with XP. For the rest of you, learn to deal with Windows 7 as it is the future, for the next few years anyway. I don't find the Starter version to be that much different than anything else. Sure, I don't have a few options that I'd have with Windows 7 Premium but big deal. This is a secondary computer to me. I already have 3 others in the house. The operating systems on my computers range from XP to Vista to Windows 7. This operating system isn't that big of a deal to me. Windows is Windows. Speed and Functionality: - This netbook is more than fast enough for me. However, I'm just using it as a portable Internet surfing machine. I don't plan to put Photoshop on it. I don't plan to put iTunes on it. I put Open Office on it and that's all I'll need. This netbook runs just as fast for me as any other computer I have around here. If you plan to use it as I do than 1 GB RAM will be fine. If you plan to do heavy duty stuff with it than upgrade to 2 GB RAM. Keep in mind though that at the end of the day it is still and will always be just a netbook. If your expectations are out of whack and you're expecting this netbook to be some amazing powerhouse that can do everything for you except wash your dishes you will likely be disappointed. Do your homework. Assess your requirements and needs. Maybe you'll find that you should be getting a regular laptop instead. This is something you will need to work out with yourself. If/how you work it out will determine how happy you will be with this product. - The keyboard is great. It is 92-93% of a regular-sized keyboard and my fingers can fly on it. Still getting used to having the Delete and Backspace keys in a slightly different place but I will adjust. People talked about it being spongy? I don't understand that. It seems solid to me. - Before I forget, and as others have always stated, the bloatware that comes with this netbook is minimal. I only had to remove a couple of programs that were getting in the way. That's a positive. - I like the smooth touchpad. The Asus I tried out at Best Buy had a dotted touchpad. It wouldn't have been the end of the world to get that but I much prefer the smooth touchpad. It's very responsive and I have no problems with it. I do have a wireless mouse for one of my other laptops but I don't plan to use a wireless mouse with this netbook. Not necessary. - People have complained about the WiFi range being bad on this netbook. I don't have a problem with that. I have a G wireless router and this netbook has a G network card in it. I can easily use my netbook anywhere in the house and on the property. In fact, I took it across the street to my neighbor's house the other day and I still had 1-2 bars on WiFi over there. Power Adapter: - People have said the light on the power adapter block is too bright. That makes me laugh. Folks, if that light is the worst irritant of your day you have it made! - Speaking of the power adapter, it does make me nervous that the pin that you insert into the netbook is so tiny. I did worry for a small amount of time about that breaking and perhaps I'll buy a back-up power adapter just to be prepared. Ultimately, I think if you're careful with it than it likely won't be a problem. Keep in mind, with this netbook's long battery life most of the time that power adapter is going to be sitting at home collecting dust. - I know there was an issue with some Asus power adapter blocks getting too hot. I think that was specifically related to the 1005 series. I can certainly verify that after 11-1/2 hours of charging the first time and 9+ hours of charging the second time the adapter block was very COOL to the touch. So, Asus either fixed that problem or it never was an issue for the 1001 series and it was just an issue for the 1005 series. Special Features: - The Super Hybrid Engine feature is great. It seems to me that is exclusive to Asus. It's a feature in and of itself that makes the Asus netbook one to consider. - The Express Gate feature is pretty slick too. It really does boot up the netbook into a different area and get you on the Internet a whole lot faster. When you want to get out of that, it's easy to segue into the main Windows area where you have full access to all of your programs again. Too bad that Internet Explorer is the only browser of choice in Express Gate. I'm a Chrome die-hard because I know just how fast I can browse the Internet with Google Chrome. Oh well, it's not that big of a deal. Conclusion: - If you're a traveler or student on the go definitely you want to consider this machine. It's light as a feather, pretty durable and is a pleasure to use. I look forward to taking this to Canada with me when I go on a road trip in a few weeks. It does everything well that I expect of it. And it has the best battery life of any portable computer I've ever seen. - I just want to stress yet again that you should assess your needs and requirements before you buy this netbook. So many reviews on here (and I can tell just by reading them) are negative because I firmly believe those people who bought this netbook should've bought something else instead. If you're at all computer savvy like me and you're a bit of a neat freak (you don't clutter up your computer with crap) this netbook will easily perform to your expectations and that I can guarantee you. Good luck. Hope you're as happy with this product as I am. "Perfect school tool" 2010-04-24By T. YoungI am a duel enrolled student and travel between campuses a lot, if I need to whip out a paper and don't want to sit in a computer lab this net book and a flash drive is a perfect combo! Lightweight, fast and close to a full size keyboard. I am very impressed with my net book and very happy with my purchase. CON:The only downfall of the machine was the Windows 7 Started, I would have rather had the whole program installed then a sample program. It doesn't off much of a "sample" of Windows 7. "JNO" 2010-04-22By Joanne Nowakowski (Michigan) Received the Netbook quickly however it didnt work. Had a bad boot sector. Amazon quickly replaced and the replacement is great. Light, easy to use. Fits in my purse like a paperback book. Great for a second computer. "Love My Netbook" 2010-04-22By Cheryl E. Gillean (Flushing, Mi) I just wanted something to get on the internet and pick up my email and mess around while traveling and to keep in touch at home. This little baby is perfect. Love it!!! "light use so far" 2010-04-19By greeenteeee (land of traffic) i didn't expect it to do much more than surfing the net and today's day and age, it's appropriate. i've lightly used it so far, but it has come in handy for on the go use such as in the car. battery life is good, and can go for days depending on use. KOENIGSTo start off, I was very skeptical about the whole Netbook idea. I have always owned very large/heavy laptops, the whole concept of bigger is always better is what sold me the past for buying them. Now, I'm starting to rethink that strategy. After many hours of painstaking research on which one I should buy and try to sell myself on the idea of a Netbook as well. So, I finally settled on this particular model and ordered up all the extra gear to go along with it. One of the additional items I ordered for it was the 2Gig memory upgrade kit for it. I was very leery about this move after reading some of the other reviews left by other owners who had ran into problems when upgrading from 1Gig and going to 2Gigs. The trick for ordering the correct memory was to ignore the recommended memory model for the unit and go with (Crucial - CT25664AC800 2GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory Module) the next model up on the Crucial memory. The first thing I did was open up the unit and replace the memory module with the new 2Gig unit. Here's a little tip; do the memory upgrade first, then installing the battery pack. By doing this you're less likely to damage the Netbook and/or memory. I fired up the little Netbook and check the memory in the system BIOS and in Windows, I was seeing all 2gigs of memory. Next I and dumped the Windows Home it came with and installed Windows 7 home premium (64bit) from a USB flash drive that I had set up ahead of time. Once I had Windows up and running, I went ahead in and took advantage of the built in SD card reader to setup Windows memory boost using a 4Gig high-speed SD card. Wow, now I'm impressed, with 6gigs of available memory to Windows and this particular Netbook is using the Atom 450 processor, It runs Windows beautifully in native 64bit with hyper threading turned on in the CPU. I love the lightweight of the unit, the built in wireless card is responsive, the keyboard has a nice solid feel to it, the LED screen is easy on the eyes and the fact I can run the unit the entire day before needing to recharge it again is a real bonus. So, after running around with it for the first week, I am pleasantly surprised by the unit and have changed my thinking about bigger is not necessarily always better. Just a side note, 2 of my coworkers liked the Netbook so much they have bought ones for themselves. "Love my new netbook" 2010-04-15By C in AZ (Arizona, USA) After researching economical netbooks exhaustively, including HP, Dell, Gateway, Compaq etc I found this to be the best bet for buck! Amazon shipped it quickly and everything was as stated. I do also highly recommend the memory upgrade to 2GB. The recommended Crucial memory upgrade that Amazon suggests DOES work in this unit and takes less than 5 minutes to install with only a small screwdriver needed. I find it does make a difference especially running memory intensive programs. Windows 7 Starter is limited but it comes on almost all netbooks. There are freeware programs out there that will let you change backgrounds etc. People complained about movie quality. I use windows media player to watch movies that I have downloaded from Amazon. Their average $5-15 and many of them you can install on multiple units. The movie quality is excellent!!! Internet browsing is good. IE works, Firefox does but also has a few hiccups. Google Chrome I've found is best because its simple and doesn't over tax the unit. For the $$$$ this is hard to beat!!! "Great Travel Netbook" 2010-03-22By Road Man (Greensboro, North Carolina United States) Purchased this small 10.1" screen netbook for travel convenience. By was I happy!! Lightweight made the trip to Aruba a pleasure by not having to haul a heavy laptop on vacation. Got used to the 93& keyboard size in short order and actually like it better than the full-size version. Very fast start up from the shut down or sleep cycle. Screen brightness is a real plus while outside or on a plane. The embedded camera was perfect for SKYPE and MICROSOFT MESSENGER LIVE communications and saved us a fortune to keep in contact with home. Battery life is excellent, ranging from 8-10 hours/charge depending on functions being used. Speakers are high quality and sound volume more than adequate. Speed was excellent even with the base 1G of RAM. "Amazing little booger" 2010-02-21By B. StoneThis netbook just amazes me. Compared to Asus and Samsung netbooks that I have owned it is the clear winner based on the fact that I am carrying it with me 24/7, literally putting it next to the bed when I get in. Added the extra ram (now at 2gb) and upgraded to Windows Home Premium. The unit is lightening fast and the keyboard is easy to adapt to. At under 3 pounds it is almost unnoticeable when carrying all day in my backpack, with my verizon myhotspot wifi device I can whip out the book and connect easily and conveniently anywhere. The only negatives I can see so far is the lack of bluetooth connectivity but I had to return a Samsung netbook due to it losing the bluetooth and wifi connections after about an hour of surfing. Also there are no recovery discs and the user needs to burn them themselves, one for system (2 discs needed) and one for the drivers (one disc needed). Having owned Acer products before I was prepared for this and had ordered an external dvd drive along with the netbook to create them before setting up and using the unit. I have seen comments about the screen size. Yes it is small but the clarity on the Acer is the sharpest and brightest I have seen. As a person with "coke bottle" glasses I have no problems seeing the screen. All in all a good netbook but not a laptop. I do not game and use it only for surfing, email and music on the go (along with surfing in bed using an attached usb light). It is just what the doctor ordered for my needs. "Nice, Nice, Nice" 2010-02-16By B. Hoffman (Puyallup, Wa USA) Just got this morning, (presidents day). Beautiful little machine!! Went through set-up, while fully charging battery, installed NIS 2010, Windows updates etc. Unplugged unit and Batterybar v3.3.1 shows 10.5 hours left (on power saver plan). Most Excellent!! Main use was to be an E-Reader while on the treadmill, and works great for that; about a 30 minute test drive/walk. Screen opens about 135 degrees and stays very stable, does'nt tip over as a few laptops will. Screen brightness is much higher than my full sized Toshiba laptop; have turned it down a few notches; and can always turn it back up for a bright day. At first run, the CPU/Memory gadget, shows memory at 60% or so usage. Had an extra 2g stick of PC5300 DDR2 memory from previous laptops, installed and now shows 30-35% usage. I recommend installing to the 2gig level. The wireless works good even on signals with only 2-3 bars (can test that well, I live in an apartment complex.) and my network of course is a full 5 bars. Surfs well on full power mode, power saver mode takes a little to load new pages, but with a single core 1.66ghz CPU, it is to expected. As long as you remember this is not a high end desktop or laptop, it should be just fine for surfing, E-mail and reading. And the portability!! The best part! With the memory upgrade, I can highly support a purchase of this unit; this is my first Acer product, but have read many good reviews of the Brand. Having built many home systems, and playing computer nerd for many friends and relatives, I am aware of the many issue that a computer can give. I will post any issues that I may come across during the next few weeks. P.S. this review was sent in on the ACER !! All Reviews

Similar Products Customer Reviews "Great computer with one HUGE fault" 2010-04-27By Daniel Benedict (burlington vt) I just purchased 8 Hp mini 210-1040NR for work. My intention was/is to upgrade the ram to 2GB and the HDD to 640GB WD drives. What I discovered after a painful week of debugging and contact with HP is the following: Beware: The new Intel Atom N450 chipset is buggy. Of the 8 computers 2 of them rejected the 2GB Crucial ram. I could take the same stick and install it in one (worked fine) install it in another (not work at all), but take a different Crucial 2GB stick and worked. So when upgrading the RAM one stick may work and another not work. Next when I went to upgrade the HDD from the Toshiba 160GB stock drives to the WD 640 GB drives it was not bootable. I got a boot error HDD not found. This issue repeated itself on all 640GB WD drives in all HP's. An email to HP revealed a major fault. Due to new contractual regulations with Intel and Microsoft PC manufacturers producing netbooks with the new Intel Atom N450 processor are regulated to restrict HDD upgrades to under 250GB maximum capacity. Any HDD larger then 250GB will be rejected by the system to maintain contractual agreements with Intel and Microsoft. The Intel Atom N450 also has the GMA built into the chipset. Color striations come across the top edge of the screen in certain situations. This is not a problem with the Intel Atom N280 chipset using the GMA 950. While the HP Mini 210-1040NR is not a bad computer and fairly well designed, if you are intending to go beyond the 250GB HDD capacity I recommend finding a netbook or notebook that does not have these unpublished restrictions with the Intel Atom N450 series chips. "Handy and easy to use internet access" 2010-04-26By M. D. Snyder (USA) The netbook lived up to all of the reviews I had read before making the decision to purchase this model. I have used it while traveling as well as from my home and am very happy with the speed of access while using the wifi connection to access the net. The windows 7 starter is easy to use and fills all of the needs I have for this netbook. The only downside is that it will not connect to the shared files and printer on my main PC that is still running windows XP on my home network. So I do have to copy files that I want to print or email them to my home email address. But overall it has been a good purchase and I am very happy that I made it. "Just what I needed" 2010-04-26By FitSol (CT) Love this netbook! Just big enough to carry with me and not be overloaded. Fits in the briefcase without a problem, easy internet access, can connect thru my phone and long battery life. Keyboard takes a little getting used to because of the size reduction but not too difficult. "Great Mini laptop" 2010-04-24By Edwin WoodringI bought this for my daughter in law to use and the built in web cam is a great feature and lets me see and talk with my grandkids.!! With the MacBook Air, Apple has created the world's thinnest laptop--measuring an unprecedented 0.16-inches at its thinnest point (and 0.76 inches thick overall). Apple brings its vaunted multi-touch technology, found on the iPhone, to its laptops with the MacBook Air, enabling you to pinch, swipe, or rotate to zoom in on text, advance through a photo album, or adjust an image via the oversized trackpad. And the MacBook Air embodies Apple's continuing environmental progress with its aluminum enclosure, a material highly desired by recyclers, a mercury-free LCD display with arsenic-free glass, and brominated flame retardant-free material for the majority of circuit boards as well as PVC-free internal cables. Despite the its slender shell, the MacBook Air doesn't skimp on the specifications. It includes a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display, full-size and backlit keyboard, and a built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing. This MacBook Air (model MC234LL/A) is loaded with a 128 GB solid-state drive, which has no moving parts for enhanced durability. It's powered by a custom-built 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved multitasking performance. And it features the integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor, which delivers outstanding 3D game play with up to five times faster graphics performance than the previous generation. Other features include 2 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi connectivity via 802.11a/b/g/n standards, Mini DisplayPort video output (for DVI and VGA connections), and up to a 5-hour battery life.
Amazingly thin at just 0.16 inches at its thinnest and 0.76 inches at its thickest point, the MacBook Air weighs just 3 pounds. | It comes pre-loaded with Apple's Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system--an operating system custom-designed for the advanced technology inside--and it also comes with the iLife '09 suite of applications, including iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, and iTunes.
With the trackpad's Multi-Touch technology, you can pinch, swipe, or rotate to adjust an image, zoom in on text, or advance through a photo album. |
The MacBook Air includes a vibrant 13.3-inch LED-backlit display and a full-sized keyboard (see larger image). | Design The thinness of MacBook Air is impressive, but even more impressive is that fact that there's a full-size notebook encased in the 0.16 to 0.76 inch of sleek, sturdy anodized aluminum. This svelte, 3-pound laptop has a vibrant, energy efficient 13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, and its spacious trackpad offers multi-touch gesture support for pinch, rotate and swipe--making it more intuitive than ever to browse and rotate photos or zoom into web pages in Safari. It also features a full-size keyboard that's backlit, making it ideal for dimly lit environments such as airplanes, studios or conference halls. It includes a built-in ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the keys as well as the display brightness for optimal visibility. One of Apple's most celebrated innovations is the MagSafe power adapter connector, which offers a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So, if you happen to trip over a power cord, you won't send the MacBook Air flying off a table or desk--the cord simply disconnects, without damage to either the cord or the system. Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Custom-built to fit within the compact dimensions of the laptop, the MacBook Air is powered by a 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a super-fast 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an enormous 6 MB of Smart Cache, an L2 cache that can be shared between the cores as needed. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) The Intel Core 2 Duo's 128-bit SSE3 vector engine handles 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle, accelerating data manipulation by simultaneously applying a single instruction to multiple data. And its two execution cores are designed to share resources and conserve power, helping it to achieve higher levels of performance since it uses fewer watts. And with 4MB of shared L2 cache, the MacBook Air is a multi-tasking monster. With such substantial L2 cache, data and instructions can be kept close to the two processor cores, greatly increasing performance and allowing the entire system to work more efficiently. And, because the processor cores share the L2 cache, either can use the entire amount if the other happens to be idle. Video Processing & Output Whether you're working on a Keynote presentation or watching a movie before you catch a flight, every document, video, and photo on your MacBook Air will look sharp on the glossy 13.3-inch widescreen display. With the new NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor, the MacBook Air changes the game and just about everything you do with it. The 9400M provides up to an amazing 4x performance boost over the original MacBook Air. Photos appear in iPhoto quickly, transitions in Keynote are seamless, games play more smoothly, and movie and video playback is better than ever before. The 9400M graphics processor shares 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM with main memory. The MacBook Air now includes a next generation Mini DisplayPort, which delivers a pure digital signal that can drive up to a 30-inch widescreen display. The Mini DisplayPort is ultra-compact at just 10 percent the size of a full DVI connector, and is compatible with Apple's 24-inch Cinema Display. Adapters are also available for using VGA, DVI/HDMI and Dual-Link DVI displays Hard Drive and Memory For storage, this MacBook Air comes with a 128 GB solid-state hard drive. Faster and more reliable, solid memory provides a rapid boot-up and quicker access to applications while improving battery life. It's also more reliable than a hard disk drive because there are no moving parts. Since data is written to stationary memory instead of a spinning hard disk, you have less risk of hardware problems with the hard disk when you're on the move. The 2 GB of PC3-8500 DDR3 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 1024 MB) has an industry-leading 1066 MHz speed, and it maximizes the capacity for this laptop. Optical Drive Because of the amazingly thin design of the MacBook Air, an optical (DVD/CD) drive was not included. To install software from a disc, you can wirelessly use or "borrow" optical drives on remote PCs or Macs using the Remote Disk feature. This allows you full access to an optical drive without having to haul one around. If you want to have an optical drive for burning CDs and DVDs, you can purchase the optional MacBook Air SuperDrive (sold separately). This multi-format CD/DVD read/write drive is powered by the MacBook Air's USB port, eliminating the need to carry a separate power adapter. Networking The MacBook Air doesn't include wired Ethernet networking, and instead relies solely on Wi-Fi to connect to your home network as well as wireless hotspots. The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it's also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the optional AirPort Extreme base station as well as Apple's Time Capsule Wi-Fi base station/hard drive--both of which include 802.11n capabilities. If you don't have access to a wireless network, you can use an optional USB Ethernet Adapter (sold separately) Use the built-in Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague. Video Conferencing with Built-in iSight Artfully placed in the display bezel is an iSight camera, which enables easy video conferencing as well as allows you to snap pictures of yourself and create video podcasts. Using the iChat AV application, video conferencing is integrated into your iChat buddy list, so initiating a video conference is a breeze. iChat also lets you hold audio chats with up to 10 people and provides high-quality audio compression and full-duplex sound so conversation can flow naturally. For video podcasting, you can record a short clip using the iSight camera, then use iWeb to create a video blog entry or post your GarageBand-recorded podcast. Other Features

Designed with the Environment in Mind Apple has worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of computer manufacturing. Apple engineers removed the majority of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more in the MacBook Air. Because Apple makes both the hardware and the software for the MacBook, they're designed to work together to produce a smarter product that uses less electricity. For instance, to reduce energy consumption, the hard drive spins down automatically when inactive. MacBook Air also decides which processor--CPU or GPU--is best suited to efficiently perform a task. The processor even throttles down to save power between keystrokes as you type. The LED-backlit display in MacBook Air is another feature that plays an important part in conserving energy, consuming 30 percent less power than conventional LCD displays. And the display is designed to dim when you enter a darkened room. The MacBook Air meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, giving it ENERGY STAR certification. MacBook also meets the latest efficiency requirements of ENERGY STAR Version 5.0 Specification for Computers before its July 2009 effective date. The MacBook Air has also earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold. The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT, evaluates the environmental impact of a product based on how recyclable it is, how much energy it uses, and how it's designed and manufactured. Light weight and faster. The fan seems to make some weird noise when it just starts. The USB port that flips over seems to be less durable than desired. Except that, good computer. "Mac Air" 2010-02-14By Kurt G. Snyder (L.A.) There have been plenty of reviews panning the Mac Air due to limitations. I'm not a techie so for me it is a perfect fit. I own a desktop mac and can do on it what I can't on the Air. The Air is great for travel or just to carry around the house when I don't want to be pinned down to my desk. It is super light weight. Yes, it meant shelling out some serious change for what is basically a Netbook on steroids but unlike a Netbook, it is substantial. Full keyboard, GREAT screen, etc., etc., etc. Then again, the new IPad may fill those needs for others. Your choice. K "Macbook Air" 2010-01-28By D. Albuquerque (TORRANCE, CA, US) It is a pretty cool Macbook. It really prevents wonderful how thin it is. I would recommend. "Was pleasantly surprised" 2010-01-22By BillFirst of all this will not be comparison between PC and MAC. I use both as well as a few different flavors of Unix (Linux, Ubuntu, BSD) and I also own a current generation 21.5 inch iMAC that is maxed on it's hardware and 15" MacBook Pro that is also maxed out on it's hardware. So why did I buy this and why did I buy it from Amazon. That's easy, I'm lucky enough to have a large Apple store 20 miles from my house so I have been "playing" with the Air ever since it's release but until now I could not justify owning one but secretly always wanted one. I will admit that I have not played too much with this particular setup until now. I bought this from Amazon because I received lots of Amazon gift cards for Christmas and needed to use them and now with the 90+ dollars off Amazon was offering, let's just say my cost out of my pocket was down in the $800. The reason I bought this was the ability to travel lite. My 15 inch is not that much heavier but I found that I just do not use all of it's features when I travel. I very rarely need more than one USB port and if I do with the Air, I'll have a small USB hub in the case. The lack of a DVD player is also not an issue for me. I can count on one hand how many times I used the one in the 15 model and that was only to install some software. I use the one in the iMAC a lot as I create video and DVD's for myself and others. I thought the smaller screen and lack of ability to add memory would be an issue but so far I have not even worried about more memory. I went into buying this Air knowing exactly what it could do and what I expected from it, but like I mentioned the ability to add more memory would be nice. Would I recommend it to someone, yes I would, but only after that person understands what it can and cannot do. If all you are going to do is run the occasional program like Office, or any of the iLife or iWork products then you will be in good shape. Start adding in most Adobe products like Photoshop CS4 and the like and you will see a performance hit as the machine is not built to do that kind of work. It will work, but it will be a bit slow. I read another review were the person says the Air is in-between a Netbook and a full fledged laptop and I'd agree with that to a point. While much more powerful than any Netbook I looked at, it is still a full fledged laptop, just toned down. As far as the price, with the 91 dollars off right now and the gift cards I got a steal and them some. I suspect that the normal price reduction is based on what Apple is suppose to release on Jan 27, 2010. This actually made me wonder if I should wait to see if a new generation Air was coming, but the price was just to hard to pass up. I doubt seriously if they do announce a different Air I would be disappointed, I like mine way too much What will I do with the 15 inch, I'm going to place it in the spare bedroom for my overnight guests to use and only allow it access to the internet and not the rest of my network, they will have access to the other software on it but I'll do what the Apple stores do and make it so that a reboot literally restores the machine to a just installed setup. I've seen how they do this and it's not that much different than using the Kickstart program that comes with just about every version of Unix nowadays, this way my guests can configure it any way they would like and a full restore is jsut a reboot away "Great for traveling!" 2010-01-11By muratySuper light, very user friendly... overall good price for what you get. Love MAC OS X, it is all about the ease of use and seamless software and hardware integration. Not recommended for desktop replacement!! All Reviews
